About Us
Early Years Education is my passion and I aim to provide a warm, welcoming environment where your children will be able to continue their development whilst also having lots of fun and making new friends.
As a primary school teacher I have experience providing the Early Years Framework in which continuous provision is a key element. I have therefore used this experience to design working areas in the setting, where children can be independent in their learning, choosing what to explore and investigate in their own time. Through this provision children learn whilst following their interests. Such areas include a messy play area, where children can get messy exploring different textures such as jelly, paint or cooked pasta; role play where children can dress up and use their imagination whilst developing vocabulary skills; and a quiet reading area, where children can relax and enjoy looking at a variety of books. There are opportunities for mark making and emerging writing in all areas and we have a weekly finger gym activity, which aims to strengthen fingers ready for writing through fun activities, such as balancing marbles on golf tees, threading, unlocking padlocks and Hama bead creations (age appropriate).
The children's interests shape the changing learning environment. For example we have had a hospital theme in the role play area, as the children were choosing to play doctors. We created a hospital and ambulance out of cardboard boxes. The following week the role play area was set up for the 'Three Little Pigs' as the children were pretending to build a house using the tools, so we made a house out of a giant box, we made masks, read the story and acted out the story. The learning environment is continually updated and resources rotated to keep children engaged and learning through play.
In addition to Child led learning, which accounts for the majority of the day I encourage some adult led activities, such as 'Letters and Sounds' and numeracy activities. To aid learning we utilise educational apps on the I pads, for example 'Hairy Letters', where the children can learn how to form letters in a fun way. The Ipads have numerous educational Apps downloaded onto them covering all seven areas of learning. We keep use of the Ipads to a maximum of 10 minutes a day by using an egg timer.
The outdoors is a great tool for learning and development. Your child will have access to outdoor play everyday. It is my aim to ensure children can choose where to play, whether indoors or outdoors at all times. In our garden there is a gardening area where your child can learn to grow plants and have fun digging and exploring. We have outdoor play equipment such as a wooden Play tower and slide, playhouse, mud kitchen, and sandpit as well as numerous outdoor resources and sports equipment such as footballs, tennis racquets, Boules, Croquet, tunnels, skipping ropes etc. We take advantage of the vast green open spaces surrounding our family home for mini beast hunts, nature walks, exploring and having fun.
I promote a healthy lifestyle through being active and healthy eating. The children will have the opportunity to eat fruits and vegetables they have helped grow in the garden, and request that you only provide healthy food in your child's lunch box. No chocolate, sweets, fizzy drinks or crisps please.
A variety of outings will be provided for your child such as visits to farms, and parks to develop their understanding of the world. We have National Trust membership and make regular use of Dyrham Park, The Courts, and Rainbow Woods, as well as the occasional rainy day visit to Soft play centres to promote physical development in a safe environment.
In addition to being a qualified teacher I have completed the required Local Authority Childminding course 'Understand how to set up a home based childcare service'; I hold a 'First Aid for Child Carers certificate (Paediatric First Aid)'; and a Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Catering; as well as Child Protection, Outdoors Education and Behaviour Management training.
